This beautiful, thought-provoking, and strikingly well-made documentary will stand with classics such as Into The Void and Thin Air, describing a harrowing real-life incident on K2, the world’s second highest and #1 deadliest mountain. K2 is also called Savage Mountain, claiming one in four climbers, mostly on the ascent from 26,000’ into the oxygen-poor region— the death zone. High Camp in August 2008 was the launching site for the most fateful of excursions in mountaineering history. A high altitude international traffic-jam was brewing. Climbing teams from Europe, South Korea, and the United States—70 in total—were congregating, waiting for optimal weather. At last, “conditions were perfect,” recalls a climber. “It was a day in a million.” Then, within 48 hours, things went drastically, horribly wrong. Featuring visually stunning and viscerally powerful images from the roof of the world, interviews with survivors and the legendary Walter Bonatti (from the first team to climb K2 in 1954), archive photos, and actual footage shot by the expedition, woven with seamless recreations, the film creates a compelling tale where only the mountain knows all that occurred.
