The Oscar nominated The Great Beauty follows a well-mannered man as he confronts his storied life. Jep Gambardella had literary fame in his youth, but he’s now 65 and coasting on its fumes, unable to repeat his early success. Still popular and a perennial guest at famous friends’ parties, Jep longs for a creative spark and is constantly on the lookout for the ubiquitous muse. He thinks he has finally found one in Ramona, a shrewd stripper who seems just as bored as he is. But romance is beside the point when Jep wanders through the fundamentals of his life, as he tries hard to see the same old things in a new light. Meanwhile, the viewer is treated to a lavish parade of contemporary Rome—a bizarre and whimsical world that Jep takes for granted.
