The family friendly comedy The Devil and Max Devlin is a throwback to the 1970s and early 80s when Disney made mostly live action films. A bus has just smashed Max Devlin (Elliott Gould) flat. He’s now dead, but why isn’t he entering the pearly gates of heaven? Enter The Devil’s right hand man, Barney Satin (Bill Cosby). Barney has been sent by his boss to make a deal: if Max wants to stay out of Hell and return to a life on Earth, he must collect the signatures of three innocent youths, hence tricking them into signing their souls over to you-know-who. Desperate to return to life, Max agrees and is sent back, equipped with some flashy magic powers and two months to accomplish his task. What he doesn’t bargain for is falling in love with the mom of one of the bratty kids slated to sign his malevolent contract, and actually becoming a good man.
