Ethan Hawke’s debut documentary is a loving tribute to Seymour Bernstein, a brilliant pianist, inspiring teacher, and life-changingly wise creative mentor. Despite being critically-acclaimed during his late ‘60s-early ‘70s career as a concert pianist, Bernstein gave up performing at the age of 50, devoting his time, energy, and talent to composing and teaching, which he found to be his true calling. Hawke cedes Bernstein center stage and gives him free range to expound his hard-won, fully-lived life lessons on not just music and musicality, but also on creativity, craftsmanship, and making your work and life meaningful, even if that means eschewing success, recognition, and fortune.
