THE RACHEL CORRIE FOUNDATION & OFS PRESENT: SEVERED w/ POST-FILM DISCUSSION

Friday, October 17, 2025
The Rachel Corrie Foundation & Olympia Film Society present:
Severed
Two years of Genocide in Gaza & Disability Awareness Month
The film will be followed by speakers, poetry, and discussion
The film Severed is a call to witness, solidarity, and action. As the genocide in Gaza escalates, so does the mass disabling of Palestinians. Thousands are surviving with life-altering injuries, amputations, and immense trauma—while access to medical care has been systematically destroyed. Severed tells the story of Mohamad Saleh, a teenager from Gaza, who has survived five major Israeli assaults. In those attacks, he lost his home, family members, his best friends, and, at the age of 12, his leg. Now living in Egypt, Mohamad struggles to piece together the shattered fragments of his life. Mohamad’s story reflects the pain and trauma endured by thousands in Gaza, alongside their remarkable strength, resilience, and determination to live.
Dir. Jen Marlowe / 2025 / Palestine / 35 min

Dr. Mimi Syed, an emergency physician, spent months working in Gaza’s al-Aqsa and Nassar hospitals under siege. Dr. Syed has seen patients murdered by U.S.-funded bombs, performed amputation without anesthesia, and pronounced children dead more than any doctor should in their lifetime. In August, she attempted to return to Gaza with Gifts of Disability Alleviation (GODA) for innocent children but was denied entrance by Israel. Dr. Syed has appeared on BBC, Al Jazeera, ABC, NPR, Democracy Now, and numerous international news outlets.

Lisa Suhair Majaj, award-winning Palestinian American poet and scholar, will read her own poetry and share voices from Gaza

Nomy Lamm with Sins Invalid and JVP Olympia will speak on Disability Justice and Palestine Solidarity

Donations will provide stipends to Mohamad, his family, and other families in Gaza.

SCREENING: FRI 10/17 7PM
