ROAR

June 12 – June 18

ROAR

“No animals were injured during the making of this film—over 70 cast and crew members were.” That’s the alluring gimmick of Roar, a crazy, thrilling adventure story about big cats and the people who attempt to live with them. Tippi Hedren stars as the wife of an animal biologist who moves his family to the African plains only to find their living quarters overrun with lions, tigers, and even more lions. Instead of leaving immediately, they find themselves in the middle of a territorial war between their new, ferocious roommates. But entertaining plot aside, Roar must be seen for its death-defying stunts with huge cats, which really weren’t stunts, since it was all completely real and sent many to the hospital, including a young Melanie Griffith, who had to have facial reconstruction surgery after being hit in the face with a giant claw. Simon Abrams of RogerEbert.com calls Roar “the can-you-believe-it?? find of the year.”
