Jim Jarmusch is renowned for his super-cool films inhabited by outsiders living in a skewed world, so it’s only fitting that he would journey into the world of vampires. In Only Lovers Left Alive, Tilda Swinton and Tom Hiddleston play Eve and Adam, a married couple who have been living contently for centuries both together and apart. As of late, Adam has been feeling discontent, staying holed up in his living space listening to and creating music that feeds his soul that only lives in darkness. He’s contemplating his own destruction when Eve appears on the scene to remind him of why life is a precious thing, even when it is never-ending. Dreamlike in atmosphere, Only Lovers Left Alive features some of the coolest and most compelling vampires to ever appear on screen. Peter Travers of Rolling Stone calls it “soulful and captivating…one of the strongest films yet from Jim Jarmusch.”
