Byzantium is a romantic fairy tale of love, loss, and violent

appetites. Clara and Eleanor have been alive for the past 200 years.

Clara gets by on her feminine wiles, luring men to their impending

doom with her overt sexuality. Meanwhile, Eleanor (Saoirse Ronan) is

perennially a teenaged girl who is well beyond mature for her seeming

age. When the two women end up on the run after they are linked to a

heinous murder, they retreat to a mysterious hotel. It is here where

their long lives will change forever because of love and the threat

from immortal enemies who want their kind destroyed. Atmospheric and

alluring, Byzantium is director Neil Jordan’s second foray into the

world of vampires, his first being 1994’s Interview with the Vampire:

The Vampire Chronicles. Manohla Dargis of The New York Times calls it
