MOONLIGHT

January 6 – 12
MOONLIGHT

The critically acclaimed and award winning Moonlight is an empathetic portrait of a boy growing into a man on the outskirts of south Florida. Chiron is poor and black, and is questioning his sexuality. In a story divided into three parts we follow his journey as he navigates the highs and lows of his complicated life, in order to find the person he is meant to be.   With an underlying foundation of social commentary and universal knowing, Moonlight reaches far beyond the conventions of traditional cinema creating an atmosphere that reflects the shared experience of being human in the modern world.
“Moonlight is magic. So intimate you feel like you’re trespassing on its characters’ souls, so transcendent it’s made visual and emotional poetry out of intensely painful experience, it’s a film that manages to be both achingly familiar and unlike anything we’ve seen before.” – Kenneth Turan, LA Times
Dir: Barry Jenkins / 2016 / US / 111 min
