Kill Your Darlings is a dramatic exploration of a pivotal incident that helped shape the Beat Generation. Set in 1944 at Columbia University, the story revolves around the early life of Allen Ginsberg (Daniel Radcliffe) and the members of his peer group, who will go on to start a literary revolution. Ginsberg has found his calling as a poet, as he hangs with his creative friends that include Jack Kerouac and William S. Burroughs. Together they inspire one other to break out of the stifling conformity that has frozen society. Along the way, Ginsberg wrestles with his sexuality as he finds himself attracted to Lucien Carr, a troubled member of their group who is in a toxic relationship with an older man. When a murder is committed, the harsh treatment the young writers receive in the hands of the law will spur the questioning of authority, becoming a literary tradition. Peter Travers of Rolling Stone calls Kill Your Darlings “a dark beauty of a film that gets inside your head and stays there.”
