In the documentary memoir HEART OF A DOG, musician and visual artist Laurie Anderson pays tribute to her beloved pet Lolabelle. Through film clips, montage and bewitching voiceover Anderson recounts her life with her furry companion, while using the lessons she’s learned to reflect on love, mortality and other essentials of the human condition. As Lolabelle becomes blind and learns to play piano, Anderson tells stories from her own life that vary from childhood hospital stays to living in NYC during 9/11. All of this is illustrated in an abstract style that is colorful, absorbing, hypnotic and profoundly moving. Robert Abele of the LA Times says, “Heart of a Dog is that rarest of pieces, an unabashedly experimental work that’s as inviting as a visit with an old friend,”
