GOOD OL’ FREDA

December 6 – December 12
Mezzanine Lounge Service on Friday, December 6

Good ol’ Freda

Forty-plus years after they broke up, you might think that there’s nothing new to be learned about The Beatles. But Ryan White’s new documentary, Good Ol’Freda, tells the story of the rise of the Fab Four through the eyes of the band’s lifelong secretary, Freda Kelly. A Liverpudlian fan of the band herself, who had gone to nearly 200 of their lunchtime sets at The Cavern Club, Freda helped found their first fan club and, in a twist out of a 60s schoolgirl’s fantasy, at age 17 was asked by Beatles manager Brian Epstein to be their secretary – a position she held until 1972 (two years after the members went their separate ways). Fiercely loyal, for 40 years she kept mum about her experiences with the world’s most famous band, to whom she was not just an employee and friend, but truly one of the family – until now. Journey back to a time when a fan could not only ask for but actually receive a lock of a band member’s hair or a pillowcase on which he slept! Chris Sawin of the Houston Examiner enthuses, “If this is the last true story of The Beatles, then it’s a remarkable tale full of magnificent triumphs, devotion, sorrow, and maturity.”

Dir.: Ryan White / 2013 / US, UK / 86 min / Digital Cinema
