OFS is so excited to announce our newest resident critic: Ellis Boran! Ellis will be reporting on our regular OFS Kids Club titles via his new column CINE-FILES. Here’s what Ellis had to say about SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDERVERSE…

“I’m Ellis Boran, and it is a pleasure to start my own film review column, Cine-Files! My first movie review will be on the new animated film Spiderman: Into the Spider-Verse.

Spiderman: Into the Spider-Verse is about a young boy named Miles Morales who is intrigued and bewildered at becoming the new Spiderman. Miles Morales and his companions find themselves traveling through different phases of their journey in a time paradox. I believe that this movie does a great job expressing the characters’ personalities, as if the writers could sense what the characters were feeling. In Spiderman: Into the Spider-Verse, Marvel created a new, huge event in that this is the first Spiderman movie in which an African-American voices the main character. One thing that the movie could’ve done without is the overwhelming number of backup/side characters, these characters seem to fall into obscurity after the final climax.

That concludes my first review on Cine-Files, I hope you enjoyed it and before we end this review, I’d like to give a huge shout-out to Jonah Barrett and Olympia Film Society for making this column possible! Spiderman: Into the Spider-Verse is a movie that I would recommend.”
