THE OVERNIGHT

In The Overnight, Alex (Adam Scott) and Emily (Taylor Schilling), newly arrived in Los Angeles from Seattle, have not yet gotten to know their neighbors. At a playground with their toddler son, they meet Kurt (Jason Schwartzman) when their sons strike up a friendship. Kurt invites them to his home for a family playdate and pizza night. After an enjoyable dinner, Kurt and his wife Charlotte (Judith Godrèche) suggest that both couples put their sons to bed and continue the evening. What was a simple get-to-know-you soon becomes an opportunity for much more, as alcohol flows, advances are made, and sexual boundaries are explored. Katie Walsh of Indiewire.com’s The Playlist says, “The sex comedy is a well-worn genre, so it’s always refreshing when one comes along that is genuinely fresh and surprising, without sacrificing any of the sex or comedy.
