Chauncey Peltier, Leonard’s son will be there to share about his father. We will gather early and write letters together for our brother. Leonard loves to hear from us all. It gives him strength. If you have stamps and cards to share please bring.

Just before President Obama left the White House, The Office of the Pardon Attorney announced denied clemency to imprisoned Native American activist Leonard Peltier. Peltier is a former member of the American Indian Movement who was convicted of killing two FBI agents during a shootout on South Dakota’s Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in 1975. He has long maintained his innocence. To understand Peltier’s story, Warrior takes us back to the violent confrontations at Pine Ridge and Wounded Knee in the Seventies, and then to today’s Indian reservations where the government’s plans for uranium mining and waste dumping are still being heatedly resisted by Indian activists. The heart of the film, though, is a detailed painstaking account of Peltier’s harrowing odyssey through the American justice system.  Dir: Suzie Baer / US / 85 min

“A hard-hitting, cool-headed, persuasive piece of investigative journalism – well crafted, deeply committed.” -Variety

“Suzie Baer’s tough, smart doc on Leonard Peltier”-The Village Voice
