You don’t have to have attended a Jewish wedding to know Hava Nagila, the joyous Jewish folk song that has come to stand for celebration and fun with a crowd. You may think you don’t know it, but you do. In the new original film Hava Nagila: The Movie, the origins of this time-honored staple are uncovered, revealing a history steeped in Jewish tradition that spans from its introduction as a silent prayer to the gradual growth in popularity that led to its inclusion in countless television shows and movies. Featuring comments from myriad characters, including some of the many musical artists who have covered the song, from Harry Belafonte to Regina Spektor, Hava Nagila: The Movie is an entertaining look at how a centuries-old piece of music, rich in Jewish culture, became ingrained into the consciousness of most people alive today.
