UPTIGHT (1968)

$11 General Admission & $8 OFS members
Scored by Booker T. & the MG’s, Uptight (1968) was a landmark collaboration between activist and actress Ruby Dee and director Jules Dassin. Set in Cleveland in the wake of Martin Luther King Jr.’s assassination, a band of black activists begin arming themselves for a revolution.
Dir: Jules Dassin / 1968 / US / 104 min

“The politically trenchant Uptight was a natural extension of what Ruby Dee had been striving to do since the early days of her career: to combine art with activism.” – Ina Archer, Criterion

“The passions and beliefs of black militants are presented head-on, with little in the way of comfort for white liberals.” – Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times

SCREENING: FRI 6/17 7PM; SUN 6/19 7PM; THU 6/23 4PM

OFS covid protocols remain unchanged for indoor masking and proof of full vaccination for all guests, volunteers, and staff for all events in the Capitol Theater. Protocols will stay in place at least through April 30, 2022. The theater is currently selling at 100% capacity, 762 seats.

Due to the continuing COVID-19 threat, it is critical to continue protecting and supporting those individuals who are immunocompromised or medically vulnerable, or who remain concerned for their own health or the health of their family or community. OFS encourages people to be kind and compassionate to individuals, students and businesses that choose to continue wearing face masks.
