In The Nude Area, two girls from different cultures play out an intriguing game of seduction without words. Naomi, a Dutch girl from the fashionable Amsterdam-South quarter, first spots Fama, an Arabic girl from the immigrant quarter, at the sauna. As each becomes intrigued with the other, and they eye each other in places they both frequent, a mild flirtation begins. Fama works as a waitress and Naomi seems well enough off not to work at all, but inequality doesn’t exist in love, as their detached infatuation builds into burning desire. Each subtly draws the other in, in a game of emotional cat and mouse that takes place over one summer. Bold, experimental, and unabashedly erotic, The Nude Area is a mesmerizing illustration of love, temptation, attraction, and dreams in cinematic form.
