THE 19TH ANNUAL OLYMPIA COMICS FESTIVAL
The 19th annual Olympia Comics Festival will take place Saturday, June 15th. This festival is a non-corporate oasis that celebrates the art and creativity of comics and graphic novels. The festival is family and “newbie” friendly and will offer lots of entertainment and excitement for anyone interested in “the ninth art.” The festival will begin with a cartoonists expo at the Olympia Center running until late afternoon, accompanied by several panel discussions. This will be followed by a stage show at the Capitol Theater, featuring various comic- related entertainment, including Guest of Honor officiating the wedding of Danger Room Comics co-owner Casey Bruce to his love, Olympia native Marisha Kay. The event will conclude with a signing and sketching event featuring our Guests of Honor at local comics shop Danger Room Comics.
The Olympia Comics Festival stage show at the Capitol Theater [206 5th Ave SE, Olympia WA 98501] will begin at 5:00 PM (doors open at 4:30) and conclude at 7:00. This year the event will feature the usual comics-related fun before bringing guest of honor Emil Ferris on stage to perform the wedding ceremony of Danger Room co-owner Casey Bruce and Olympia native Marisha Kay – the two first awkwardly met at Danger Room and she later sent him a Facebook friend request after seeing The Olympian’s 2017 article on the store. The wedding will be followed by a round table discussion amongst Guests of Honor Emil Ferris, Craig Thompson, and Benjamin Dewey. The stage show is open to the public (including the wedding portion) and attendance is a mere $6.00.
