SWEET CHARITY (1969): 4K RESTORATION

September 3, 4 & 9, 2022
SWEET CHARITY (1969): 4K RESTORATION
ROADSHOW VERSION
$11 GA / $8 OFS
Shirley MacLaine gives one of her greatest performances in this spectacular musical. Director Bob Fosse broke new cinematic ground with this freewheeling, visually stunning story of a lovelorn New York dance hall hostess, Charity Hope Valentine, who dreams of old-fashioned romance but gives her heart to one undeserving man after another. MacLaine joins all-star cast members Chita Rivera, Sammy Davis Jr., Ricardo Montalban and Stubby Kaye in belting out thirteen vibrant Cy Coleman-Dorothy Fields’ numbers including Big Spender, Rhythm of Life, There’s Gotta Be Something Better Than This and the show-stopping If My Friends Could See Me Now. It’s an unforgettable production of an all-time classic.

We’re thrilled to present the roadshow version of Bob Fosse’s now celebrated musical. In 1969, roadshow engagements of Sweet Charity were exclusive to big-city markets and preceded the general release of the film. Out of hundreds of titles released domestically during 1969, Sweet Charity was among only seven given a deluxe roadshow treatment. They included an overture, intermission, entr’acte and exit music. We will be recreating this experience for our three screenings.
Dir: Bob Fosse / 1969 / US / 149 min

SCREENING: SAT 9/3 7PM; SUN 9/4 7PM; FRI 9/9 7PM
Tickets available at the box office 1/2 hour before showtimes.

CURRENT COVID PROTOCOLS

Our top priority continues to be the safety of our audiences, artists, volunteers, staff, and the community. Beginning July 1, 2022, OFS will no longer require proof of vaccination. OFS strongly encourages and recommends when attending a performance at the Capitol Theater that all audience members wear a mask over their nose and mouth except when eating or drinking. Due to the continuing COVID-19 threat, it is critical to continue protecting and supporting those individuals who are immunocompromised or medically vulnerable, or who remain concerned for their own health or the health of their family or community. OFS encourages people to be kind and compassionate to individuals, students and businesses that choose to continue wearing face masks.

OFS management continually assesses the changing guidelines, artist contracts, and local government updates. We reserve the right to require health and safety protocols for all performances.  We will proactively communicate any change in health protocols with advance notice.

If you feel sick, have any of the following symptoms, or have tested positive for COVID-19, we request that you do not attend any performances:

Cough
Sore throat
Shortness of breath
Trouble breathing
Fever or chills
Loss of smell or taste
