Olympia Farmers Market Presents: SINGING OUR WAY TO FREEDOM: POST-FILM Q&A w/ PAUL ESPINOSA

SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 17 – 35th Annual Olympia Film Festival
Olympia Farmers Market presents:
SINGING OUR WAY TO FREEDOM
Post-Film Q&A w/ director Paul Espinosa
3:30pm doors / 4:00pm film
“Singing Our Way to Freedom” is a vibrant, multilayered look at the life of Chicano musician, composer and community activist, Ramon “Chunky” Sanchez. The film chronicles Chunky’s life from his humble beginnings as a farmworker in Blythe, California to receive one of the nation’s highest musical honors at the Library of Congress in Washington DC in 2013. As a young man in the 1960s, Chunky joined the picket lines in the California fields with Cesar Chavez, demanding justice and better wages for farmworkers. Early on, he discovered that the music he created could be a powerful weapon in creating social change and overcoming prejudice and racism.
