NYC ON FILM, NYC IN LOVE: OBVIOUS CHILD (2014)

Sunday, October 9, 2022
NEW YORK ON FILM, NEW YORK IN LOVE:
OBVIOUS CHILD (2014)
Presented by Rush in Dumplings
Programmed by Lana Schwartz
$11 GA / $8 OFS

On stage, comedian Donna Stern (Jenny Slate) is unapologetically herself. But when Donna gets dumped, loses her job, and finds herself pregnant just in time for Valentine’s Day, she has to navigate the murky waters of independent adulthood for the first time. As she grapples with an uncertain financial future, an unwanted pregnancy, and a surprising new suitor, Donna begins to discover that the most terrifying thing about adulthood isn’t facing it all on her own.
Dir. Gillian Robespierre / 2014 / US / 90 minutes

“I love a good opposites attract rom com — and it’s refreshing that this one doesn’t have our two leads at odds for the majority of the movie. Plus, it’s wonderful to see Jenny Slate’s character learn how to balance strength and self-possession with vulnerability.” – Lana Schwartz

CURRENT COVID PROTOCOLS

Our top priority continues to be the safety of our audiences, artists, volunteers, staff, and the community. Beginning July 1, 2022, OFS will no longer require proof of vaccination. OFS strongly encourages and recommends when attending a performance at the Capitol Theater that all audience members wear a mask over their nose and mouth except when eating or drinking. Due to the continuing COVID-19 threat, it is critical to continue protecting and supporting those individuals who are immunocompromised or medically vulnerable, or who remain concerned for their own health or the health of their family or community. OFS encourages people to be kind and compassionate to individuals, students and businesses that choose to continue wearing face masks.

OFS management continually assesses the changing guidelines, artist contracts, and local government updates. We reserve the right to require health and safety protocols for all performances.  We will proactively communicate any change in health protocols with advance notice.

If you feel sick, have any of the following symptoms, or have tested positive for COVID-19, we request that you do not attend any performances:

Cough
Sore throat
Shortness of breath
Trouble breathing
Fever or chills
Loss of smell or taste

For more information, please see our operations announcement.
