OLYMPIA LIBRARY FILM CLUB PRESENTS: MANHUNTER: THE FINAL CUT - 4K RESTORATION
<div>A retired criminal profiler (William Petersen) reluctantly returns to the FBI to help track down a serial killer of families and is forced to consult an expert—the imprisoned Dr. Hannibal Lecktor (Brian Cox in a subtly chilling performance). The third feature written and directed by Michael Mann is a gripping adaptation of the first of Thomas Harris's four novels featuring the iconic murderer Lecktor, and benefits from the filmmaker's typically striking visuals as well as a top-notch supporting cast, including Tom Noonan as the hunted killer and three-time Oscar nominee Joan Allen as his blind love interest.</div><div><br></div><div>This new 4K Final Cut, overseen by Mann, enhances the film’s depth, visual clarity and sound, offering audiences the ultimate immersive version. Shot in 1986, Manhunter was on a frontier in both its subject matter and film form, initiating an impressive list of subsequent films and series. </div><div><br></div><div><b>About the Restoration:</b><br><div>This 4K scan of the original 35mm negative—with a few shots from an interpositive—was conformed and digitally restored at L’Immagine Ritrovata in Bologna, strictly following the new reference edit done by Michael Mann.<br></div></div><div><br></div><div><b>A Note from the Olympia Library Film Club:</b></div><div><div>For the October 25th library-sponsored screening, free tickets can be picked up at the Olympia and West Olympia library starting October 12. You can also show your library card at the box office, but tickets are preferred. This screening will be introduced by Library Film Club facilitator Zach Havekost.</div><div><br></div><div>To kick off the library’s Reels & Restorations series, we’re going with the new restoration (and slightly new version) of one of the greatest thrillers of all time: Michael Mann’s Manhunter! True Crime (and serial killer tales in general) remains one of the most checked-out genres at the library, and one can argue its ongoing mass popularity began with Manhunter and Thomas Harris’s novel Red Dragon, on which it is based. Join us for the birth of Hannibal Lecter, the birth of true crime/serial killer fiction for the mainstream, and one harrowingly brilliant movie – on the big screen!!</div><div><br></div><div><b>About Reels & Restorations:</b></div><div>The public library, much like the movie theater, brings community members together to experience art and ideas, and blends the digital and the analog. Library Film Club and the Olympia Film Society are excited to present a series of classic and underseen movies to be discovered anew.
