OLYMPIA LIBRARY FILM CLUB PRESENTS: BRAZIL: 4K DIRECTOR'S CUT
<div>New 4K restoration of Terry Gilliam’s director’s cut, supervised and approved by Gilliam. In the dystopian masterpiece Brazil, Jonathan Pryce plays a daydreaming everyman who finds himself caught in the soul-crushing gears of a nightmarish bureaucracy. This cautionary tale by Terry Gilliam, one of the great films of the 1980s, has come to be esteemed alongside antitotalitarian works by the likes of George Orwell, Aldous Huxley, and Kurt Vonnegut. And in terms of set design, cinematography, music, and effects, Brazil is a nonstop dazzler.</div><div><br></div><div><div><b>A Note from the Olympia Library Film Club:</b></div><div><div>For the December 20th library-sponsored screening, free tickets can be picked up at the Olympia and West Olympia library starting December 7. You can also show your library card at the box office, but tickets are preferred. This screening will be introduced by Library Film Club facilitator Zach Havekost.</div><div><br></div><div>For this screening of the library’s Reels & Restorations series, we’re going with the new restoration off Terry Gilliam's monumental dystopian satire extravaganza! Oft-requested to screen at the Capitol Theater, and checked out hundreds of times from the library, Brazil's enduring popularity owes in equal parts to its extraordinary production design and the authoritarian and bureaucratic nightmare it depicts – which many would argue has only worsened since its release in 1985. Here at the library, staff often find themselves tasked with assisting patrons from all walks of life tackle the labyrinthine and tedious layers of bureaucracy that impede the solving of any problem, large or small. Nor is the library immune to such headaches at times. So, lets confront all of it together...on the big screen!!</div></div><div><br></div><div><b>About Reels & Restorations:</b></div><div>The public library, much like the movie theater, brings community members together to experience art and ideas, and blends the digital and the analog. Library Film Club and the Olympia Film Society are excited to present a series of classic and underseen movies to be discovered anew. The movies will often be presented on 35mm, carrying with them the history of those who watched previously – while some will be restorations utilizing modern technology to make them more accessible to new audiences. Join us for some great movies, at a great movie theater!</div><div><br></div><div>SCREENING: SUN 12/20 7PM (library-sponsored screening w/ introduction by Zach Havekost); SUN 12/27 4PM; WED 12/30 4PM</div><div><br></div><div>Tickets are now available online and at the box office beginning 30 minutes before showtime.</div><div><br></div><div>This show has ADA area seating or specifically held seats available.
