CULTURAL SPACES: THIS PLACE MATTERS

SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 17 – 35th Annual Olympia Film Festival
Cultural Spaces:  This Place Matters
6:00pm doors / 6:30pm show
Free Admission

Cultivating communities through cultural space is perhaps the most effective method of invested, interested engagement. Through its preservation and promotion, you expose people to new opportunities for exploration, as well as bringing together vastly different types with one shared interest; something that’s worth nurturing; a thriving arts community and raises the importance of arts, history, and cultural.  The evening will combine storytelling, images, and testimonials that will help to create dialogue, plans, and incite action and thoughtful discussion on the need to preserve the artistic and cultural places in our community.  Meet and hear stories from community members who have dedicated their lives to creating and preserving these places.

Moderated by Janae Huber of Olympians for People-Oriented Places!

Janae Huber oversees the care and conservation of the State Art Collection for the Washington State Arts Commission (ArtsWA), where she has been the Collections Manager since 2005. She is also active in the national public art field, presenting at conferences and leading workshops in the care of artworks in public spaces. She is deeply committed to civic life in her community and advocates for housing, smart land use, and multimodal transportation. She is the co-founder of Olympians for People-Oriented Places (O-POP), an organization dedicated to making Olympia, Washington a vibrant, well-planned city. In 2017, she served on the City of Olympia’s Downtown Strategy Stakeholders Group; has been the chair of her neighborhood association (2012-2015); and was a two-term Council-appointee to the Olympia Arts Commission (2004-2009).
