We’re celebrating our centennial with Swansea Sound, Lois, Mount Eerie, and Heavenly!

About Heavenly:

Heavenly formed in 1989 out of the ashes of short-lived punk pop combo Talulah Gosh. The band recorded for cult label Sarah Records in the UK and, by the time of their second album, for K Records in the US. Members of the indiepop scene in the UK and the burgeoning Riot Grrrl scene in the US, Heavenly created a unique blend of infectious melody and sharp-edged lyrics – and they filmed one of the all-time coolest videos in the Capitol Theater.

About Lois:

Lois has been making music in Olympia since the late 80s and has recorded albums for K Records and Kill Rock Stars. Her connection to the Olympia Film Society began in 1983 when she helped found the Olympia Film Festival. Over the years she devised many festival events and Opening Night celebrations and managed the Capitol Theater in the late 90s. For this stellar 100th anniversary show, Lois is joined by indie superstar Heather Dunn on drums.

About Mount Eerie:

Phil Elverum is an artist and human being from the Pacific Northwest town of Anacortes. His recordings, released variously as The Microphones and Mount Eerie, represent just a portion of his artistic output, which has ranged from running a label and co-organizing festivals to self-publishing books, photography, and painting. But it is for his stunningly original music that he is known best, from the earliest tape experiments of the ’90s to the immersive sound-diary of Microphones in 2020. Elverum has never shied from exploring the high mountain passes, finding new ways to sculpt with sound, and trying to communicate the momentary experience of being human as clearly as the water from freshly melted snow.

About Swansea Sound:

Hue Williams is reunited with Pooh Sticks singing partner Amelia Fletcher (ex- Talulah Gosh, Heavenly). Rob Pursey (also ex-Heavenly) and Ian Button provide the noise. Swansea Sound took their name from a radio station, and they even use its abandoned logo.   Something modern, acidic and angry has taken up residence in a familiar, borrowed frame, just as it has in these indiepunk pop songs.

Accessible Seating:

When purchasing tickets in advance, mark “Wheelchair / Accessible.” Accessible seating sections are located on the main floor in various areas for sight, hearing, size, and mobility needs. If you are comfortable sharing your needs, email boxoffice@olympiafilmsociety.org before purchasing so we can better assist you and ensure your time at the theater is enjoyable.
