PRE-CODE PARTY: BLONDE CRAZY (1931)

PRE-CODE PARTY:
BLONDE CRAZY (1931)
September 18, 2022
$11 GA / $8 OFS

In the pre-code era of the 1930s, Barbara Stanwyck would lay haymakers and Joan Blondell could carelessly ash cigarettes over expensive furniture. It was a lawless period of filmmaking where cocktails, sexuality, and rolling smoke inundated the screen. Olympia Film Society’s Pre-Code Party presents some of classic Hollywood’s most scandalous titles, where jewel thieves and party animals ruled the night. Each film in the series will be introduced by OFS’s director of programming, Rob Patrick.

Joan Blondell was impossibly popular in the 1930s. The Warner Bros star was quick-witted, foul-tempered, and one of the funniest actors of her time. Blonde Crazy (1931) is maybe the peak of her powers. She slaps everyone, confronts Hollywood bad guy James Cagney, and throws back a bottle of Old Granddad bourbon. No rock is left unturned in this whac-a-mole of a movie, where chairs are thrown, playing cards are fanned out, and money is stolen. Censors would never let this movie be made only a few years later. Come for the humor, stay for the now legendary bathtub scene.
Dir: Roy Del Ruth / 1931 / US / 79 min

SCREENING: SAT 9/18 7PM

CURRENT COVID PROTOCOLS

Our top priority continues to be the safety of our audiences, artists, volunteers, staff, and the community. Beginning July 1, 2022, OFS will no longer require proof of vaccination. OFS strongly encourages and recommends when attending a performance at the Capitol Theater that all audience members wear a mask over their nose and mouth except when eating or drinking. Due to the continuing COVID-19 threat, it is critical to continue protecting and supporting those individuals who are immunocompromised or medically vulnerable, or who remain concerned for their own health or the health of their family or community. OFS encourages people to be kind and compassionate to individuals, students and businesses that choose to continue wearing face masks.

OFS management continually assesses the changing guidelines, artist contracts, and local government updates. We reserve the right to require health and safety protocols for all performances.  We will proactively communicate any change in health protocols with advance notice.

If you feel sick, have any of the following symptoms, or have tested positive for COVID-19, we request that you do not attend any performances:

Cough
Sore throat
Shortness of breath
Trouble breathing
Fever or chills
Loss of smell or taste

For more information, please see our operations announcement.
