In 1930s Korea a wealthy heiress on a sprawling, countryside estate hires a young woman as a handmaiden. The heiress and her uncle live a secluded life of luxury within a country reeling from  Japanese occupation that has turned normalcy upside down. The same can be said of the estate upon the entrance of the new handmaiden, who harbors secrets and questionable motives. A twisty and atmospheric tale from director Chan Wook-Park (Oldboy, Stoker), The Handmaiden is a suspenseful and erotic, graphic and mind-blowing journey into unpredictable mystery that’s wholly absorbing in its scintillating audacity.
