“Sousveillance: Inverse Surveillance” International Experimental Shorts
Total program length: 79 minutes

Filmmakers Jacob Pander, Marina Gagarina, Mary Jane Dunphe and Stasia Kowelski will be in attendance!

Sousveillance (/suːˈveɪləns/ soo-vay-ləns) is the recording of an activity by a participant in the activity, typically by way of small wearable or portable personal technologies. Inverse surveillance is a subset of sousveillance with a particular emphasis on the “watchful vigilance from underneath”.

WARNING: THIS PROGRAM CONTAINS EXTREMELY EXPLICIT SEXUAL AND AWESOME IMAGERY!
Some of the most recent, highly-regarded and relevant international avant garde films, are put side by side with archival work and local experiments in animation and dance confrontation in this program designed to challenge our assumptions about seeing and being seen. The technologies and culture that have spurred the Black Lives Matter movement, Chelsea Manning, and Wikileaks, are used here by filmmakers to explode and invert old ideas about gaze and power. Microbiology, sex, party culture, surveillance, and colonialism are the themes explored in these radical remixes of appropriated sounds and image, colliding with extremes in approach of new image making. Experimental film, extreme sports, medical drama, action movie, and porn fans (as well as party animals) will not be disappointed with this show…but they might be changed forever!
