Proving you’re never too old to learn something new, initially reluctant seniors discover the wonders of the world-wide-web with the help of teenage mentors. Their exploration of cyber-space is catapulted to a whole new level when 89 year-old Shura decides to create a YouTube cooking tutorial. This inspires a lively competition where hidden talents and competitive spirits are revealed. A heartwarming, candid and at times humorous exploration of the victories and challenges seniors encounter as they dive into the digital world. Dir: Saffron Cassaday / 2014 / USA / 75min
STEP – Sharing Teens and Elders Project is a local multi-generational program where teens and elders gather to bridge the generation through the art of conversation. What began with 12 teens and 12 elders has grown to a movement of many more today. STEP’s goal is to change the social norm of aging. STEP meets at the Olympia Senior Center the third Saturdays of each month. Doors open at 10:30 and talk story begins at 11:00. Teens attend a training beforehand and elders come as you are. STEP meetings are free and snacks are provided.
STEP TWO-The Women Only is a branch of STEP that invites women 21 and over to a multi-generational happy hour where women talk about topics that affect them most. STEP TWO meets first Sundays at the Doubletree Inn on 415 Capital Way. Doors open at 3:30 and begins at 4:00. You buy your own drink if desired. STEP meetings are free and snacks are potluck-style.
