The Olympia Film Society (OFS) is looking for a part­time, experienced Production Manager / Sound Engineer in the Olympia, Washington area. The Production Manager oversees the technical operations of all shows (concerts and events) at the Capitol Theater and acts as the house sound engineer for one of the longest running arts organizations in the Pacific Northwest.

OFS owns and operates the historic Capitol Theater, a 750+ seat art deco movie and concert venue that is operated by a small dedicated staff, 200+ amazing volunteers, and the support of more than 1300 members. OFS maintains high standards of participatory decision­making and promotes active volunteerism among our membership to present the best in independent films, live music, and film festivals.

Production Manager

Position Summary: The Production Manager oversees the technical operations of
shows (concerts and events) held at the Capitol Theater or produced by the Olympia Film Society. The Production Manager also acts as the house sound engineer. This position reports to the Executive Director and works closely with the OFS Program Director, Cinema Technician, and stage crew and volunteers.

Event Oversight

● Act as house sound engineer for all productions when needed.
● Advance technical & other aspects of production with artist’s production team.
● Distribute show information to appropriate staff and crew as needed.
● Work with Program Director to forecast production related show expenses.
● Arrange local transportation and equipment rentals for production as needed.
● Advance artist catering. Oversee backstage staff/runners & operations. Ensure all shows run smoothly & on time. Reserve parking permits as needed.
● Supervise all aspects of production from load­in /load out.

Stage Operations & Equipment

● Submit budgets as needed for special projects.
●Maintain and build relationships with local vendors, potential sound engineers and stage crews.
● Ensure a safe working environment for all crew and touring personnel.
● Ensure cleaning, maintenance, repair & inventory is scheduled and completed on all production related equipment, stage, crew room, production office and backstage area.
● Recommend audio and stage equipment and necessary upgrades and expenses related to the technical operation of the Capitol Theater stage, audio, and lights.
● Support training and oversight of stage staff and volunteers.
● Work with the Volunteer Coordinator to keep accurate training documents and position descriptions for audio & stage crew and volunteers.
● Provide regular updates to audio and stage crew with information pertinent to their role within the organization; coordinate coverage of events and communicate contact information to the Program Director and Volunteer Coordinator.

General Responsibilities

● Attend weekly staff meetings and provide monthly reports to the Executive
Director.
● Report any personnel, safety, or financial issues to the Executive Director in a timely manner; report any such issues related to the Executive Director directly to a member of the Executive Committee of the Board
● Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

● 3 years minimum professional sound engineering and production management experience in the live music industry.
● Experience & working knowledge of technical aspects of concert production.
(including but not limited to: sound, lighting, some electrical knowledge, video &
audio recording, rigging).
● Ability to forecast expenses, create & maintain budgets.
● Above average team building/management skills. Ability to manage a team through challenging situations & long days.
● Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel), Box/Google cloud software, Basic CAD
knowledge a plus.
● Strong communication and organizational skills/attention to detail/problem solving skills
● Must work well under pressure/Even tempered.
● Requires some heavy lifting and climbing.

Time Commitment: This position is a part­time non­exempt position, estimated at 15 hours per week plus varying scheduled event hours and special project hours. Must be available to work 60+ shows per year with office hours/meetings/conference calls, as needed.
