In the latest comedy by director Alexander Payne (The Descendants, About Schmidt), an elderly man travels great lengths to rightfully claim what he deserves. Woody Grant (Bruce Dern) is gruff and set in his ways. He also knows a good thing when he sees it; that’s why when he receives a check for a million dollars in the mail he knows it’s his to claim, no matter what anyone says about it being a standard form letter. So that’s what he does with his exasperated adult son, David (Will Forte), who agrees to escort Woody on the trip in an attempt to spend some long sought bonding time with his uncommunicative dad. When their journey takes an unscheduled detour, and Woody is confronted with his past, both men learn more about each other than they ever expected.
