J.M. Turner is considered to be one of the greatest British painters of all time. In Mr. Turner renowned filmmaker Mike
Leigh takes us within the latter period of a magnetic portrayal of an artist and his distinguished talent. In a multiple award winning performance, Timothy Spall plays Turner, a cantankerous man who copes with the fame his boundary pushing work has brought him. Set in the early 19th century we are immersed in his idiosyncrasies, as well as his relations with women and the critics who both loved and loathed his prolific masterworks. Working in his trademark improvisational style, director Leigh creates a humanistic study of the origin of talent as revealed through a very flawed man. A.O.
