In the ink-black comedy Krisha, a family gathering devolves into the worst Thanksgiving ever. Krisha is a screw-up, and she knows it. She’s alienated everyone with her overt neglect mired in substance abuse. But this year it’s going to be different. Finally reunited with her family, her goal: to make amends and prepare a perfect turkey. Of course, nothing goes as planned, as wounds are ripped open at Krisha’s mere appearance in the family home. Highly influenced by the films of John Cassavetes, Krisha is raw, bracingly honest, and refreshingly unconventional. Manohla Dargis of The New York Times calls Krisha “an expressionistic tour-de-force.”
