In the enlightening documentary Jafar Panahi’s Taxi, a master filmmaker makes a movie on the sly. Iranian filmmaker Jafar Panahi’s work (The Circle, This is Not a Film) always tells the truth; so much so that the government has banned him from practicing his craft. But he refuses to stop. This third film in a series of stealthy outings finds Panahi behind the wheel of a taxi traveling the streets of Tehran as he picks up passengers who share the state of their lives in revealing detail. A.O. Scott of The New York Times calls Jafar Panahi’s Taxi “intimate and moving, reflective and revealing…one of the most captivating cinematic experiences of this year.”
