Best Foreign Film Oscar nominee, EMBRACE OF THE SERPENT, is an adventure story set in the Amazonian rain forest in the early 1900s. Theo, a deathly ill German explorer has traveled into the jungle in search of a rare plant that will save his life. A young shaman named Karamakate, agrees to accompany him even though he objects to the devastation wrought by invasive white men. Forty years later a man named Evans has traveled into the jungle, seeking the same plant. Karamakate is once again the guide, but now he’s alone—the last of his people. Alan Sherstul of the Village Voice says, “Embrace of the Serpent is a legitimate stunner that will mesmerize and stick with you.”
