DEMOLITION

May 21 – 26
DEMOLITION
Dir: Jean-Marc Vallée / 2016 / US / 101 min / DCP
Demolition is a darkly comic exploration of grief from the director of Dallas Buyers Club and Wild. Davis Mitchell (Jake Gyllenhaal) is a man in crisis. The untimely death of his beloved wife haunts his every move until the day he decides to channel his grief by literally dismantling his world. Meanwhile, he writes pleading complaints to the company that made a vending machine that stole his money and his M&Ms. This connects Davis to Karen (Naomi Watts) who sees in his overtly confessional letters a kind of anguished poetry that makes her feel that they may share more in common than a customer service relationship. Soren Anderson of The Seattle Times says, “Thanks to Gyllenhaal’s strong performance, Demolition stands out as a powerful meditation on the unhinging effects of deep grief.”
