All proceeds from the concert will support the Learning Seed Foundation Scholarship Fund, a component fund of The Community Foundation of South Puget Sound, a 501(c)3 organization.
Popular singer-songwriter Danny O’Keefe, author of the hit song “Good Time Charlie’s Got the Blues,” is coming back to Olympia.
Learning Seed Foundation founders Merritt and Marsha Long is pleased to announce that O’Keefe and guests Terry and Jerry Holder will perform at the Capitol Theater on October 21 st in a concert benefitting the Foundation.
Olympia Federal Savings is the presenting sponsor of the concert and the marquee sponsor is the South Puget Sound Community College.
The Longs, longtime Olympia residents, believe that education is the pathway to achieving dreams. The mission of the Learning Seed Foundation is to make college scholarships available to low-income students. The Foundation is especially focused on assisting students of color with financial need and an interest in serving their communities – a population that can often be overlooked for scholarships.
Headliner Danny O’Keefe, who lives on Vashon Island, created a series of albums in the 1970’s that soon proved him to be among the best songwriters of his generation. While possibly best known for “Good Time Charlie’s Got the Blues” or Jackson Browne’s version of “The Road,” both written in the ‘70s, he has continued to write and record music ever since. His songs have been recorded by artists like Elvis Presley, Willie Nelson, Judy Collins, Nickel Creek, Alison Krauss, Alan Jackson, and many others. He recently completed Home, a CD which revisits his most loved songs.
Recently, Miranda Lambert recorded one of Danny’s early songs, “Covered Wagon” The album, titled The Weight of These Wings, has been the #1 country album twice on the country charts.
Danny will be accompanied by multi-instrumentalist Joel Tepp.
Opening duo Terry Holder with Jerry Holder, who lives in Olympia, has been on tour recently in support of singer-songwriter Terry’s fourth studio CD, Flowers at Midnight.
