In this Irish mystery / black comedy / religious drama, written and directed by John Michael McDonagh (The Guard), Brendan Gleeson’s Father James is a Catholic priest in a small village. A parishioner uses the confessional to inform the Father that he intends to kill the priest in a week. As the week progresses, the film introduces the cast of eccentric and secretive villagers. Moira Macdonald of the Seattle Times gushed, “It serves as a marvelous showcase for Gleeson, a great old-lion actor who shows, in the film’s many close-ups, a quiet, weary yet unbending faith, and a face on which emotion can play like a wave on the beach.”
