Emily Blunt is generating Oscar buzz and has already been nominated for Best Actress in a Motion Picture-Drama for her role as the young Queen Victoria. Victoria turned 18 a month before she was crowned, but the young girl still fell prey to the interferences of the men around her. It was her marriage to Albert that gave Victoria the independence and inner strength she needed. This film is a love story that focuses on the protracted courtship of the teenage princess and her first cousin, but it also deals with the political intrigue that revolved around her. http://www.theyoungvictoria.co.uk/

“… turning traditional methods of filmmaking upside down, Coupe takes an algorithmic approach to cinema and, in doing so, transforms reality into narrative.” Artist James Coupe’s controversial work with ‘surveillance cinema’ uses computer vision software to extract demographic and behavioral information from video footage. The footage is then automatically reorganized and recontextualized into narratives, often based upon classic film scripts. Coupe will discuss his work and screen several of his recent short films, alongside extracts from cinematic ‘templates’ that he has used, such as Antonioni’s Blow-Up. Woody Harrelson received Best Supporting Actor nominations at this year’s Golden Globes and Screen Actors Guild Awards for his performance as Captain Tony Stone, an officer in the Casualty Notification Office who mentors Iraq War veteran Will Montgomery (Ben Foster). As someone who had a close brush with death himself, Will isn’t sure that he’s the man to tell families that their own loved ones will never be coming home. Thankfully, in between his assignments, Tony offers a sympathetic ear and the two men form a bond that will ultimately help them to readjust to “normal” life. http://www.themessengermovie.com/

Broken Embraces is Pedro Almodovar’s fourth collaboration with his icon of femininity, Penelope Cruz. As gloriously obsessed with movies, color, and melodrama as he’s ever been, and perhaps more so, the film begins as the story of blind screenwriter Harry Caine, who relates the story of his past life as sighted filmmaker Mateo Blanco and his last film, “Girls and Suitcases”, starring Lena Rivas (a complex, nuanced performance by a stunningly beautiful Cruz in gorgeous retro style). In this world of multiple identities, staged imagery, and scripted histories, nothing – and no one – is entirely what they appear to be. Nominated for a 2010 Golden Globe award.

Widowed train conductor Lionel and his daughter Josephine live together in the same Parisian apartment complex as Lionel’s ex-girlfriend Gabrielle, a taxi driver, and Noé, a handsome young man who is romancing Josephine. The elements of every “losing your daughter” comedy are there, but all these elements remain familiar without becoming predictable, flowing into emotional states both subtle and sublime. http://www.wildbunch-distribution.com/site/35rhums/

Wallace & Gromit are a clay animated duo that are so admired that they have won numerous Academy Awards starring in their own animated short films. In Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit, the befuddled inventor Wallace and his faithful, silent canine companion Gromit star in their own feature film. It’s time for the annual Giant Vegetable Fete, and our faithful duo have been hired by Lady Tottington as security, guarding the humungous veggie entrants from numerous, ravenous rabbits. Their good intentions are threatened by a gun-toting nut, and a malfunctioning invention that results in the creation of the dreaded Were-Rabbit. Roger Ebert calls The Curse of the Were-Rabbit “Delightful and good and funny”.

“Fanny and Alexander (winner of 4 Oscars) emerges as a sumptuously produced period piece that is also a rich tapestry of childhood memoirs and moods, fear and fancy, employing all the manners and means of the best of cinematic theatrical from high and low comedy to darkest tragedy with detours into the gothic, the ghostly and the gruesome.” – Variety

LUDICRA were one of the first bands to help bring the San Francisco’s Bay Area black metal movement more to the forefront as they were one of the first bands within the San Francisco metal scene to fuse black metal elements and combine them with punk traditional metal, and even moments of neo-folk.
Supporting the night are Northwest legends Fred and Toody Cole of Dead Moon fame with their new creation Pierced Arrows; al o- fi rock n’roll dream and openers Lullabye Arkestra whose swaggering metal and hardcore sounds are made by just drums and bass. Each band is female driven which will give you another reason to not miss this incredible show!

A SINGLE MAN Dir:Tom Ford / 2009 / US/ 99 min With “A Single Man”, designer Tom Ford’s directing debut, follows what is intended to be the last day in the life of George (Colin Firth in a gently nuanced, profoundly-moving, career-best performance), a closeted British ex-pat professor in 1962 Los Angeles who is still devastated by the death of his partner 8 months prior and intends to end it all that night. As the day’s events unfold, both routine and unusual, George takes the time to really look one last time at the life he will abandon, unless a chance at human connection changes everything…Loosely based on the novel by Christopher Isherwood. "This film belongs to Colin Firth. Uncanny at showing the heart crumbling under George's elegant exterior, he gives the performance of his career. Director Ford is a true visionary, but it's his humanity that gives the love story a ravishing, bruised grandeur." Roling Stone, Peter Travers
