A MOST VIOLENT YEAR

A Most Violent Year

J.C. Chandor’s (Margin Call, All Is Lost) third film features impeccable, fully-realized performances by Oscar Isaac (Inside Llewyn Davis) and Jessica Chastain (Interstellar). Set in New York City in 1981, the year violent crime in the city reached its peak, A Most Violent Year is the story of Abel Morales, an immigrant who has inherited a heating oil company after marrying the boss’ daughter and is desperately trying to achieve his own version of the American Dream without selling his soul in the process. He has 30 days to come up with the remaining payment for waterfront property which will give him a strategic edge in business, while at the same time his trucks are being hijacked by rivals and an ambitious district attorney is building a case against his firm. The Wrap’s Alonso Duralde says, “With his third feature film, J.C. Chandor… firmly plants himself among this generation’s great filmmakers.”
