SELMA

Selma

The veil of history is torn open as we get a rare peek into a pivotal time portraying the complexity and power of the civil rights movement in the US. This Oscar-nominated film, the first to focus on Dr. Martin Luther King, pulsates with “the fierce urgency of now”. David Oyelowo (The Butler) is phenomenal as King, creating the explosive mixture of outrage, faith, focus, and diplomacy that drove him in the time leading up to and including the 1965 Selma to Montgomery marches, and bringing national attention to issues that remain as relevant today as 50 years ago. “Intelligently written, vividly shot, tightly edited and sharply acted, the film represents a rare example of craftsmanship working to produce a deeply moving piece of history,” — Stephen Farmer, Hollywood Reporter. Dir. Ava DuVernay / 2014 / US, UK / 128 min / DCP
