Irish animator Tomm Moore (The Secret of Kells) has followed up his Oscar-nominated debut with another beautifully-rendered adaptation of Irish folklore. This time set in a present-day that is still rife with magic and ancient mysteries, Song of the Sea tells the story of a pair of siblings, Ben and his little sister Saoirse, who was born the night their mother Bronagh vanished from their home in a lighthouse on a sea-swept island off the Irish coast. Their still-grieving lighthouse-keeper father Conor sends the children off with their grandmother to Dublin, where a crisis relating to the mystery of Saoirse’s true nature compels them to journey home in order to save her life. Along the way they discover embodiments of ancient Irish myth down even the most ordinary of paths.
