Seattle quartet LA LUZ is driven by danceable surf beats, trembling organ, 60’s girl-group harmonies, reverb-soaked guitar and a wild love of rock n’ roll. Last fall, the band toured with garage rock champ Ty Segall, converting “Luzers” all over the country while promoting their excellent debut LP “It’s Alive” on the Hardly Art label. La Luz’s influences run cool and classic – Link Wray, Ventures, Shangri-Las, Francoise Hardy, Bo Diddley – while still maintaining a haunting, dreamlike quality that is uniquely their own. Onstage, these four talented women convey a gritty self-possession, and they engage their audience with the same kind of deft skills they employ in writing songs, playing their instruments and harmonizing effortlessly – in other words, there’s a good chance you and your pals will be doing a Soul Train-style dance line before the night is through. Opening the show is Will Sprott, formerly of the Mumlers. Sprott wears his influences on his sleeve, borrowing from heyday rock n’ roll just enough to leave room for his own embellishments, of which his soulful voice stands as a distinct highlight.
