Bennett Miller’s (Capote, Moneyball) third film, Foxcatcher is a meticulously-detailed, psychologically nuanced true-crime story of the events that led to the 1996 murder of Olympic gold medal wrestler Dave Schultz by John E. du Pont, multimillionaire heir to the manufacturing dynasty, who had sponsored/employed both Dave and his brother Mark, also an Olympic gold medal wrestler, as part of his “Team Foxcatcher” wrestling academy. With fully-realized, carefully crafted performances from Channing Tatum, Mark Ruffalo, and especially a career-changing turn from a nearly-unrecognizable Steve Carell as du Pont, the film is an “insidiously gripping psychological drama” and “a model of bleak, bruising, furiously concentrated storytelling”—Justin Chang, Variety.
