An unconventional love story filled with great performances, Labor Day is the latest film from director Jason Reitman (Juno, Up In the Air). In the romantic drama Labor Day, an emotionally isolated woman forms an unlikely bond with an escaped fugitive one late summer weekend in 1987. Adel (Kate Winslet) and her 8-year-old son, Henry, live on the outskirts of a small town. Divorced, she thinks her best days have passed and has settled into a sad malaise of loneliness. But change always arrives in unexpected ways—it could be on a routine trip to the convenience store, where a bleeding man takes Adel and Henry hostage. Frank (Josh Brolin) has escaped from jail and is desperate for somewhere to hide out. At first glance, the woman and her son seem like easy marks, but then Frank sees something more in the forlorn single mom who’s hiding from life and love.
